Santa Songs Video
“Santa Songs: A Christmas Cabaret,” Dan Johnson’s one man show, was originally developed in association with Premier Arts in Elkhart, Indiana, it debuted at Stone Soup Emporium and Bonnie & Clyde’s Soda Shop, 110 E. Vistula Bristol, IN 46507 with Daniel Johnson and Liesl Bell on Dec. 16 & 17, 2011. The revised 2012 edition “Carols and Kris Kringle” played in Glenview, IL at Terra Sounds Recital hall and Nappanee, IN at the Round Barn Theater.
The current edition of “Santa Songs” is a concert of holiday music celebrating Santa traditions featuring original music by New York City composer Paul Johnson as well as traditional favorites such as “Toyland” by Victor Herbert and “Here Comes Santa Claus” by Autry and Haldeman together with songs from stage and screen, staring Daniel T. Johnson in 2013 with music director Matthew Ellenwood and in 2014 with m.d., Mark Burnell.
Daniel is a frequent interpreter of holiday material having appeared many times as Santa professionally and for charity. His acting has been featured in “A Christmas Carol” and “Miracle on 34th St.” and he considers his association with the Santa tradition as nothing less than a sprig of holly in his cap. Daniel is a veteran musical theatre performer of material from Gilbert and Sullivan to Meredith Willson. 2014 marked his fourth year presenting “Santa Songs: A Christmas Cabaret.”
Matthew is a freelance vocal director, music director and conductor and has provided services for several companies in Chicago. He also served as the vocal coach and assistant conductor of the Chicago Gay Men’s Chorus from 2000 to 2010. In addition to his role as Artistic Director of Terra Mysterium Performance Troupe, Matthew composes and arranges music for Terra Mysterium’s shows, teaches and frames magical illusions and effects for each new production, and co-writes each show with the Terra Mysterium writing team.
The 2013 edition of “Santa Songs” was presented to benefit the Brotherhood of the Phoenix. The 2014 edition was presented to benefit West Suburban PADS and the Chicago Food Depository and played at St. James Presbyterian Church in and the Nineteenth Century Club in Oak Park, as well as at the Grand Piano Haus in Skokie, IL where the show was recorded for video. This video performance was with Mark Burnell, music direction and Matthew Ellenwood stage direction.
Mark Burnell is an accomplished pianist/vocalist/arranger and one of Chicago’s most sought after musicians, working with a wide array of talent.
